With the Panzer IV just about complete, I've started on the base for the diorama. I picked up a Proxxon foam cutter off Amazon, as the handheld cutter I have doesn't cut it (pun intended)! I can't get a straight line to save my life.
Using the new tool, I cut some foam for the base and side wall. The Diorama is actually based off a pre-built 1/35 scale base from Black Dog Models out of the Czech Republic.
Instead of buying a pre-built, I wanted to give another go and building from scratch. Especially since I have a vignette in mind I want to build for another project.
I had to order some extra things off amazon however. So I grabbed some Tamiya Models Oil Drums/Jerry Cans/Buckets and barrels, along with a set of Hobbyboss Afrika Korp figures.
Looking at the new figures, I decided I am only going to use three of them. This should be enough to add a little extra to the diorama, without cluttering it up. As for the barrels and whatnot, I'm using three of them as bases for signs.
I went to HL to look at the balsa wood. My local HL hasn't kept any stock up, so I bought all that I could. Michael's has more a selection, but they are a 300% price mark up of what's at HL.
The base was easy to get together with some clear elmer's glue. I spent a little time working on rocks for the wall. Picked up a set of dentist type tools at HL as well to work with foam.
So far, Ive got the figures mostly painted. Barrels have been done and i just need to do a little bit of final weathering on them and the signs have been created.
I have the AK Interactive terrain sand and sand dirt that i will use along with some grass tuffs i bought. I also grabbed some rocks from HL awhile back that I will use as well. As much fun as I had on the Stoumont diorama, this one should be just as fun as I get everything else going.
